DA to Inspect Megatong Primary and Eldorado Park Secondary Schools

Tomorrow, 11 June 2015, DA Gauteng Education Shadow MEC, Khume Ramulifho MPL, will lead an inspection of Megatong Primary and Eldorado Park Secondary school in Soweto.

Megatong Primary was earmarked to be merged with Sediba-Thuto Primary in 2008; however, according to investigations by Harris Nupen Molebatsi Attorneys, the district office still allows these schools to be run as two separate entities.  Further, Department of Education records indicate that Megatong Primary received an annual budget allocation in 2011. Despite this, the school has no electricity, no budget for operating costs, and outstanding teacher salaries backdating to April 2014.

Eldorado Park Secondary school was prioritised for upgrading in the 2014/5 financial year; the DA will be checking whether this planned construction has gone ahead and at what stage the refurbishment is at.

Date: 11 June 2015
Time: 09:00

Venue one: Megatong Primary School, 2984 Sekwati Street, Mapetla Extension, Soweto

Venue two: Eldorado Park Secondary School, Turf Avenue, Eldorado Park
