Tomorrow, 1 June 2023, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education, Khume Ramulifho MPL and Councillor for the City of Johannesburg Ward 81 , Cllr Joanne Horwitz will conduct an oversight inspection at Nokuthula Special School LSEN in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg.
The purpose of the oversight inspection is to assess whether the Gauteng Department of Education has fixed the retaining wall, fence and wiring of the school that was damaged by the heavy rains in February.
The neighbouring residents have been complaining about the mud flowing from the collapsed wall into their premises posing a health and safety hazard.
This state-of-the-art school is plagued with several challenges because of shoddy planning and workmanship during the construction of the school.
The DA will also assess whether the school is fully operational and whether it has been issued an occupational certificate for the dormitories.
Members of the media are invited, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
The details of the oversight inspections are as follows:
Date: 1 June 2023
Venue: Nokuthula Special School
Address: 451 Corlett Dr, Corlett Gardens, Johannesburg, 2090
Time: 10:00-11:00
