DA to assess overcrowded schools in Soshanguve

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 7 February 2023, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education, Khume Ramulifho MPL, will conduct oversight inspections at the following schools in Soshanguve, Tshwane; MJ Mgidi Secondary School, Botse Botse Secondary School, and Thorntree Primary School.

The DA has received numerous complaints about the terrible learning conditions at these schools. We have been reliably informed that there is severe overcrowding in classrooms at MJ Mgidi Secondary School and that the learners are being taught in dilapidated mobile classrooms at Thorntree Primary School.

The DA will assess the state of the infrastructure at these schools to ascertain whether the environment is conducive to learning and teaching. We will also assess whether these schools have all the much-needed resources such as furniture, stationery, and teachers.

The DA will engage with the school management and the School Governing Bodies for these schools to ascertain the challenges that they are faced daily and assist in ensuring immediate intervention from the Gauteng Department of Education.

Members of the media are invited and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
