Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Paul Mashatile must take action against Human Settlements Head of Department (HOD), Matilda Gasela for interfering in the appointment of the deputy director position for internal communications.
Gisela reportedly re-shortlisted two candidates who were disqualified from the process, against the selection panel’s recommendations, as they did not meet the requirements for the position.
The actions of the HOD has created bias and is unfair to the other candidates who were short-listed. If these two unqualified candidates remain on the short-list, the process cannot be seen as objective and it is likely that the best person for the job will not succeed.
In building a professional civil service, it is imperative that people employed in the service of the state are of the highest calibre and are fit for purpose.
Nepotism and bias has no place in the Gauteng Provincial Government.
MEC Mashatile must ensure that the process of employment within his department is based on merit and not cronyism.
