DA meeting in Midvaal violently disrupted

The Democratic Alliance held a community meeting for Ward 13 in the NG Kerk Oos, Riversdal last night where the Mayor Of Midvaal, Councillor Bongani Baloyi was to address the community regarding progress in Midvaal achieved so far, and to share our vision for Midvaal for the next five years.

Last night our meeting was violently interrupted by members of the Freedom Front Plus. These FF+ members came to intimidate Mayor Baloyi and fellow DA members from delivering our message to the community. The DA condemns these desperate antics by the FF+ as symptomatic of the proverbial ‘dying horse’.

We will open cases with the South African Police Services (SAPS) against the identified FF+ members who violently disrupted the meeting last night. We will also write to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to investigate this political intolerance to prevent another incident like this in Midvaal.

Midvaal has worked since 2001, when the municipality was taken over by the DA. Midvaal has since risen to be the best performing municipality in Gauteng by all government indices. It is a municipality known for good governance, sound management of public funds, and the ongoing quest to level the playing fields with the limited resources that we have available to us.

The DA brand is built on our bedrock values of Freedom, Fairness and Opportunity. The DA-run Midvaal municipality is delivering on these values and no political party will ever disrupt this.
